Dr. Bruce A. Woodford

Dr. Woodford has dedicated his professional endeavors to helping others and serving his country. He began his career in healthcare practicing as a licensed psychologist for 11 years. He then went on to become a Board Certified Osteopathic Physician specializing in Family Practice. After a few years in the private sector, he joined the Air Force as a flight surgeon where he was deployed multiple times to combat zones. He has almost 40 years of combined experience in healthcare. His lifelong mission has been to provide compassionate care for the whole person: mind, body, and spirit. Bay Point Healthcare is his continuation on this journey post-military service. His vision for Bay Point Healthcare is to follow his passion for serving the community and helping his patients live healthy and happy lives.​

Bruce A. Woodford, DO

Prior to opening Bay Point Healthcare, Dr. Woodford was a primary care physician at the Department of Veteran Affairs where he provided medical care for U.S. Veterans with various complex medical conditions. Having served in the military himself with combat exposure, Dr. Woodford possesses a unique understanding and first-hand knowledge of the experiences veterans and their families have endured as well as medical conditions frequently associated with military service.

 

Dr. Woodford retired after 20 years of service with the United States Air Force where he served as the 1st Air Force/AFNORTH Command Surgeon General at Tyndall Air Force Base. In this capacity, he advised the Commander on expeditionary AF medical support and force health protection for AFNORTH operations. 
 
He entered active duty Air Force in August 1998 as a Board Certified Family Practice physician after completing his residency at Midwestern University.  He also served in the Air Force Reserves from 2001 to July 2005 and served as the Flight Commander of the 931st Aeromedical Dental Flight until returning to active duty in July 2005.  Prior to returning to active duty, he served as the Medical Chief of Staff for the Logan County Hospital and served as the Emergency Room Director. After returning to active duty, he served as the acting Chief of Aerospace Medicine and Flight Commander of Aerospace Medicine at different times before deploying for a 365-day tour to Afghanistan. Colonel Woodford was the Commander of the 19th Medical Operations Squadron for two years then Chief of Medical Staff at the 27th Special Operations Medical Group until July 2014. 
 
Dr. Woodford deployed on three separate occasions, first as a family practice physician to an EMEDS at Prince Sultan Air Force Base.  A second time to Kuwait as the medical director for the first Contingency Aeromedical Staging Facility in the Air Force after the start of Operation Iraqi Freedom and deployed the last time to Afghanistan.  During his 12-month deployment to Afghanistan, Colonel Woodford (Ret) served as the Senior Ranking Officer for an Embedded Training Team for the Afghan National Army Medical Corps.
